The Amsterdam Center for International Law (ACIL) will host a lecture by Judge Darian Pavli of the European Court of Human Rights on the contemporary challenges facing the European human rights system. The lecture will examine how the European Convention on Human Rights can respond to democratic backsliding, increasing external pressures, and growing societal expectations, while continuing to safeguard the Convention’s core promise of human rights protection across Europe.

The event offers an opportunity to reflect on the resilience and future development of the European human rights framework in a rapidly changing political and legal environment. Judge Darian Pavli, who has served on the European Court of Human Rights since 2019, will share his insights on the role of the Court and the challenges confronting the Convention system today.
