This workshop, organised by the Utrecht Centre for Regulation and Enforcement in Europe (RENFORCE) will critically explore how economic security has transitioned from a policy concept to a binding legal framework, focusing on the EU’s unilateral tools (e.g., Anti-Coercion Instrument, Foreign Subsidies Regulation, CRMA) and their global impact. The workshop will explore enforcement challenges, institutional friction, interplay with other objectives and the impact on multilateral trade and investment systems.
Participants will present work-in-progress papers and receive feedback from senior academics and peers. Selected contributions may be considered for publication in collaboration with partner journals, including the Utrecht Law Review.
Abstract submission deadline: 20 September 2026.
