Directive 2021/1883/EU on the conditions of entry and residence of third-country nationals for the purpose of highly qualified employment was adopted on 20 October 2021 to replace the earlier Directive 2009/50/EC. It provides for an updated version of the EU Blue Card scheme, which sets out work and residence conditions for non-EU workers in highly qualified roles, as well as providing for the rights of Blue Card-holders and their family members. This seminar will bring together a range of institutional, academic and Member State perspectives on areas such as the recast negotiation process, national implementation and the continuing challenges of recruiting and retaining highly qualified workers.
