This session, which is part of the  International Fiscal Association Congress, looks beyond today’s headlines to ask: What does the future truly hold for tax professionals, and how can they remain indispensable in a world where certainty is shrinking and complexity is exploding? The discussion will explore how tax professionals can help shape policies that balance competing objectives – from governments’ race for technological dominance, to the urgent push for climate action, to growing demands for security and economic resilience. It will examine how regional tax priorities might diverge or converge, and how tax professionals can adapt to constant change, designing strategies that remain effective even as new rules emerge almost daily. The discussion will also address emerging concerns: Will AI and automation redefine or even replace aspects of the profession? What skills will tax professionals need to keep adding value? And which issues might rise to prominence in the coming years – beyond today’s focus on digital taxes and minimum taxation?
