This year, the World Press Freedom Conference (WPFC) will be hosted by UNESCO and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It will take place on October 18, 19 and 20 at the World Forum in The Hague. Organisers have partnered with Leiden University to host the academic forum. The WPFC highlights the importance of a free and independent media, which is why this year’s title is ‘Journalism without Fear or Favour’. Together, we must take a stand for free and independent media, and protect journalism from persisting and new forms of control.

This 3-day celebration features an academic forum, the awarding of the Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize as well as a World Press Freedom Festival.
